RP.1 Comparative study on HIV/AIDS with Antiretroviral drugs and Anti-retroviral drugs with add on Homeopathy drugs
Broad objectives
  • To study clinical progression of disease in both the groups
  • To study the immunological project by Absolute CD4 T-lymphocyte count in both the groups
  • To study the virological response in both groups by HIV viral load assay
  • To study biochemical, hematological and radiological changes in both groups
  • To study the emergence of select Opportunistic Infections (OIs) in both groups (i.e. P.corinii & M.tuberculosis)
 
RP.2 Molecular typing of Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 Strains circulating in India
Broad objectives
  • To study genetic diversity within Indian HIV 1 strains based on env, gag & nef genes.
  • Cloning and full length genome sequencing of prevalent and recombinant strains.
  • Genetic information will help in understanding of molecular epidemiology of HIV-1 in India. It may also help in vaccine development programme
 
RP.3 Molecular Characterization of drug resistance genes of HIV-1 type

Broad objectives

To study genetic diversity within the drug resistant strains of HIV-1 type C using Protease & Integrate genes. Genetic information will help in understanding of molecular epidemiology of drug resistant strain of HIV-1 type C in India.

 
RP.4 Molecular characterization of Dengue virus Type-2 isolates in the Pre-M, M and Env/NS1 gene of region of the virus isolates from Dengue HF outbreaks and field collected mosquitoes
Broad objectives
  • Referred and suspected cases of HBV and HCV from different hospitals of Delhi and adjoining areas were confirmed by molecular diagnostic test (PCR/RT-PCR)targeting surface gene, core gene and 5’UTR gene region.
  • Genotyping of HBV by sequencing of HBsAg core gene and HCV by 5’UTR gene region to know the prevalence of HBV and HCV subtype in India.
  • To know the mode of transmission of these subtypes, and their relatedness with chronicity, drug addiction, carrier state etc.
 
RP.5 Molecular characterization of Dengue virus Type-2 isolates in the Pre-M, M and Env/NS1 gene of region of the virus isolates from Dengue HF outbreaks and field collected mosquitoes.
Broad objectives
  • To confirm the dengue out-break from suspected clinical samples with the help of molecular diagnostic test (PCR/RT-PCR).
  • To indicate the dengue virus type and genotype of the Dengue out-break with the help of molecular characterization and genotyping of dengue virus based on gene sequencing.
  • To study the genetic variation in dengue virus.
  • Molecular screening of dengue virus in mosquitoes collected from field for early warning signals.
 
RP.6 DNA sequence homology of pla and f1 genes of Yersinia pestis during outbreak

Broad objectives

  • Carry out molecular diagnosis for confirmation of Yersinia pestis based on specific pla and f1 gene at the time of any eventuality of suspected outbreak.
  • To carry out the molecular characterization and genotyping of Yersinia pestis by gene sequencing and DNA homology.
 
RP.7 Molecular diagnosis of strain differentiation among Leishmania species

Broad objectives

  • To carry out molecular diagnosis and confirmation of leishmania in suspected patients.
  • To carry-out strain differentiation of leishmania species using molecular techniques.
  • To establish the diagnosis and confirmation of different leishmania species using molecular techniques.
  • To study the ITS and microsettelite regions in leishmania species and strains.
 
RP.8 Study of the molecular mechanism of anti-microbial resistance in Salmonella species

Broad objectives

  • To study the various genes involved in the mechanism of drug resistance in Salmonella species.
  • To establish the different genes for drug resistance pattern on the basis of gene mutation and sequencing.
  • Expression of acrA gene of salmonella typhi was characterized in about 20 isolates with reference to ciprofloxacin resistant.
 
RP.9 Monitoring of thyroid hormones in sera from suspected cases under NIDDCP
Broad objectives
  • To estimate the thyroid hormone levels (Free T3, Free T4 & TSH) in blood sample of suspected cases referred from Govt. hospitals and dispensaries.
  • To asses the trend of hyper and hypothyroidism in the tested samples.
  • To monitor the thyroid hormone levels in patients on thyroid drug therapy.
 
RP.10 Monitoring of Iodine levels in urine and salt samples under NIDDCP
Broad objectives
  • Being recognized as one of the National Reference Laboratory for Monitoring of IDD Programme in the country, the laboratory is providing all technical laboratory support to NIDDCP programme.
  • To estimate the iodine content in salt and urinary iodine excretion level in the urine samples collected during surveys.
  • Imparts training to Programme Officers and Technical Staff engaged in the programme at different States/UTs for manpower development.
 
RP.11 Analysis of fluoride in water samples collected during fluorosis School surveys
Broad objective
To analyse the fluoride content in water samples collected during fluorosis surveys to understand the fluoride endemicity in a particular geographical area.
 
RP.12 Comparision between Anti Measles IgG antibodies using ELISA and Serum Neutralization Test.(In-vitro Cell culture Assay) for the diagnosis of SSPE, a post measles sequelae
Broad objective
To find out a suitable alternate to ELISA which is a commercial kit based test and many a times not available when diagnostic facility is required for diagnosis of SSPE.
 
RP.13 Prevalence of Hepatitis B & C in various high risk groups
Broad objective
To find out the status of Hepatitis B & C in various high –risk groups on terms of exposure, infection and chronicity.
 
RP.14 Sero- conversion by Hepatitis B vaccination of high risk individuals
Broad objective
To find out the proportion of high –risk individuals who get protected by Hepatitis B vaccination out of those who take the vaccine.
 
RP.15 Molecular and Biochemical sensors for identification of cells and diagnosis of disease
Broad objective
  • To collect and provide clinical samples obtained from cases of meningococcal disease and cultures for the study
  • Preliminary testing of samples by Smear examination, culture and by rapid antigen detection for pygenic meningitis followed by DNA extraction
  • Evaluation of biosensors developed at IGIB using a range of clinical samples
 
RP.16 Study of Kala-azar prevalence in Delhi
Broad Objective
To diagnose suspected Kala-azar cases by parasitological & serological techniques from samples obtained from different Delhi Hospitals.
 
RP.17 Production and standardization of Leishmania antigen for serological tests.
Broad Objective
Maintenance of reference strain and preparation and standardization of antigen from reference Leishmania strains for serological tests.
 
RP.18 Sero-epidemiology of Brucellosis in Rural and Urban Population
Broad Objective
To screen PUO cases for Brucellosis and to find out the prevalence rate in Rural and Urban population.
 
RP.19 Surveillance of Arbovirus Infections in man and animals
Broad Objective
To study the activity of Gr.B Arbovirus in man and animals with special emphasis on Dengue, Japanese encephalitis and Chikungunya viruses.

Broad Objective
To study the sero-prevalence of Toxoplasmosis in women with bad obsteric history (BOH) and neonates.

Broad Objective
To determine the prevalence of rabies infection in the dog population in Delhi.

To study the epidemiology of Rabies in man and animals as a baseline data for effective implementation of Rabies Control in the country.

To determine the rabies neutralizing antibodies in sera of man and animals using 1) mouse neutralization test, ii) counter immuno-electrophoresis and iii) ELISA techniques.

Broad Objectives
  • To provide laboratory support for surveillance of plague in states mentioned

  • To note the prevalence of Soil Transmitted Helminthis (STH) and Lymphatic Filariasis in remote tribal dominated villages of West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh.
  • To note the prevalence of sero-positive cases of Yaws in children under 5 years in the past yaws affected villages as well as yaws free villages.
