Broad activities of the Branch
Training and Capacity building Research Specialized services and Outbreak investigation and control
Other services available and/or being provided by the Branch:
(i)  Filaria clinic
a) Day clinic:
Twice in a week, Monday and Tuesday  for treatment of new and old filaria cases.
b) Night Clinic:
Twice in a week i.e. Monday and Tuesday for collection /examination of night blood smear from individuals attending the night clinic.
ii) Clinico-parasitological and entomological activities:
a) Regular collection of mosquitoes and larva of vectors of filariasis and clinico-parasitological surveys for detection and treatment of mf carriers and filaria patients.
b) Surveillance of Aedes mosquitoes, the vectors of dengue and chikungunya in different parts of Kozhikode and Alappuzha districts
iii)       Referral services : As a referral Centre of Lymphatic filariasis, cases are referred from  Medical Colleges and other Health Institutions of the locality for  Diagnosis and treatment
iv) Supply of preserved material e.g. mf slides and vector mosquitoes to medical colleges and other health care centers

v) Supply of other materials - like normal and infected blood, media, stain and teaching materials/aids etc. to District Medical Offices, Medical colleges and Nursing Colleges, Schools, local bodies and other research institutions as per request on public interest.etc.
vi) Cross checking of blood slides - NFCP units in Kerala sends blood slides for cross checking to this centre routinely.
vii) Filariasis Diagnostic services:  Blood samples mostly from acute stage of lymphedema patients are sent reference centres for detection of filarial antibodies and antigen. Necessary advice and treatment were provided to the patients.
viii) Evaluation of Mass Drug Administration against lymphatic filariasis in Kerala state: In terms of actual drug distribution and consumption coverage, and reasons for non-consumption
(ix) Other relevant information on activities of the Branch
Morbidity management clinic on lymphatic filariasis is conducted for the benefit of filaria  patients. Several classes are conducted on chikungunya and dengue for prevention and control to different categories of persons. B.Malayi Research Unit Cherthala was shifted from a private rented building to Govt   Accommodation in the Taluk Headquarters Hospital campus, Cherthala from 19.06.08 Conduction of classes on MDA against Lymphatic Filariasis to different categories of persons Evaluation of NOMOS, a mosquito repellent cream against day biting  Aedes albopictus in Kerala in collaboration with the Centre for Medical  Entomology   and Vector Management, NCDC, Delhi Post Chikungunya medical camp organized by Cherthala Municipality with the active participation of NCDC Yaws surveillance activities in districts of Maharashtra Supervision of containment activities in Bird flu affected areas of Dibrugarh district of Assam
