Broad activities of the Branch : |
| |
|
Research, mainly operational research on different aspects of filariasis and also on other communicable diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, yaws STH. |
|
Training to various public health personal on vector borne & other communicable diseases. |
|
Provide services to public through filarial & malaria clinic. |
|
Supervision of ongoing National disease control programmes and advise to State Governments & NGOs. |
|
Apart from that other duties like outbreak investigations etc being carried out as assigned by Directorate |

1. Study on Vector & Vector control activities in Tribal Dominated Malaria Endemic Districts of Andhra Pradesh. |
|
Broad Objectives: |
| |
- To evaluate quality of on-joining Vector Control Operations in malaria endemic tribal dominated Villages.
- To note present Anopheline species in different Biotopes and their susceptibility status commonly used Insecticides.
- To collect the reasons of Short-fall in vector control operations, in village level and to suggest remedial measures against it.

2. Lymphatic Filariasis in Weavers community in East & West Godavari Districts, Andhra Pradesh. |

Broad Objectives: |

- To evaluate the magnitude of lymphatic filariasis among weavers’ community in East & West Godavari Districts of Andhra Pradesh
- To note extent of mf carriers in the community
- Transmission dynamics and the community participation in MDA Programme
- Necessary steps to prevent transmission in the community with the help of State Government

3. Study on prevalence of soil transmitted Helminthis, L.F and Yaws in tribal dominated area of W. Godavari Dist. |
|
Broad Objectives: |
| |
- To note the prevalence of Soil Transmitted Helminthis (STH) and Lymphatic Filariasis in remote tribal dominated villages of West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh.
- To note the prevalence of sero-positive cases of Yaws in children under 5 years in the past yaws affected villages as well as yaws free villages.

4. Study on effect of cardanol/card-phenol extract of Anacardium occidentale L shell on different species of mosquito larvae in Andhra Pradesh. |

Broad Objectives: |

- To evaluate effect of cardanol, an extract of cashew nut shells (Anacardium occidental e L) on aquatic stages of different Vector mosquitoes in nature.
